This week, I had a normal shift on Monday and I went to a staff meeting on Thursday. Everyone at the practice was at a meeting, learning how to use the new computer systems during my shift, so I got to go too. I watched and learned how the system works and got to see how comfortable all of the therapists and technicians were to voice their questions and opinions. It was cool for me to see how comfortable everyone was with each other. Recently, I asked Dave, who owns the practice, about turning my internship into a summer job, and at one point in the meeting when talking about giving everyone logins, Dave said "not today, but soon Natalie!", so hopefully this is a good sign that I'll get the job!

On Thursday this week, I got to learn how to use the ultrasound machine! The techs that I work with sometimes use a special ultrasound machine when the therapist requests it. I've only seen them use it a few times in my month there, so I knew I was interested in watching one be performed and learning all about the process. The one technician, Sue, showed me how to give one, and taught me some of the science behind the way the ultrasound works, like why it doesn't produce pictures like a typical ultrasound does. She even showed me how it felt on my arm! It was really cool to learn about that, especially since I might use it if I get a summer job there! This week I am getting more comfortable around the office with my duties and learning tons more about physical therapy. The techs have been giving me more responsibilities, such as taking hot and cold packs off of patients, which means interacting with them more. I love the office because it is so much fun! They love holidays and decorate for all kinds of events, like Mr. Bones here dressed for Easter! I had to miss Tigers Day because of Spring Break and I was sad about that because it seemed like it would be really fun. It's a great work environment and I'm very happy that I chose to continue the program here. |
